🪴 P7 Plant our new Biodiverse Garden 🪴
On Thursday P7 took part in the Radius Biodiversity Project. We are one of only 23 schools across Northern Ireland to benefit from this scheme. The project will run from December 2022 - November 2023. Through the project the children will develop their own biodiverse garden in the school grounds and will learn how to maintain and develop the garden, hopefully producing a range of vegetables and fruit.
The pupils worked alongside experts from Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful (KNIB) to plant their very own biodiverse garden consisting of apple, pear, and plum trees and blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry bushes. KNIB will oversee the planting of our new growing garden, which will also consist of a raised bed (for planting strawberries), and a number of homes for small mammals and insects as well as a compost area. Our pupils will also learn how to make bird feeds, and food for bats, butterflies and bees.
We look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour.
