The Speedwell Trust received funding from the Mid-Ulster Council to deliver a Peace Building Project to School Partnerships.  The MUST Project (Mid-Ulster School’s Together) aims ‘to develop links between schools from different sectors and build bridges between our two main communities contributing to increased understanding and mutual respect.’

Speedwell Staff will support schools in starting a shared project where children and teachers can:

(a) mix and meet their peer group from different backgrounds, (b) learn about and become more aware of each other’s cultural traditions and (c) are encouraged to be tolerant and respectful of diversity within a shared society.

The Project involves 5 workshops :-

1. Ice-breakers/Team-building activity day at Parkanaur - children from both schools come to Speedwell centre where Speedwell staff will facilitate a fun filled, ice breaker day including team building games and 'getting to know you' activities

2. Friendship & Feelings Workshop - children from both schools will once again come together at Parkanaur and use the Forest Environment to learn about friendship and emotions.

3. Respecting Diversity Workshop - children will take part in a shared Diversity workshop held in one of the participating schools facilitated by Speedwell staff and focusing on celebrating each other’s differences.

4. Drumming Practice- children will take part in a shared workshop held in one of the participating schools facilitated by ‘The Gathering Drum’.  They will handle and explore different drums from around the world and also learn different drumming routines for the performance.

5. Drumming Performance – Together children will perform the drumming routines they have learnt and will showcase their learning from the Project.  Parents are invited to this celebration.
