Lissan PS support Niall Falls as he raises money for Charis Cancer Centre

29th Apr 2022

On Thursday 28th April Niall Falls visited our school to accept the £650 cheque raised by our pupils, families and staff on behalf of Charis Cancer Care.  Niall spoke to the children about the Marathon Des Sables – which he recently completed at the end of March.  The Marathon Des Sables is a truly gruelling 250km multistage ultra-race in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, the Sahara Desert.  It is 6 days running across endless sand dunes, rocky Jebels and white hot salt plains.  The marathon runners carry what they need to survive on their back in a rucksack weighing 8kg for the entire race.  It is a phenomenal challenge with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees centigrade and the longest run is a double marathon on day 4 and will involve running into the night.

Niall completed the race safely and has raised an outstanding amount of over £10,000 for Charis.  We were delighted to be able to support him in his fundraising, and we all really enjoyed hearing all about the marathon and seeing the amazing photographs and videos taken from the desert.

Thank you to all the pupils and parents for your amazing donations!!
